The 6th EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK is an initiative of the European Commission, which takes place every year from 16 to 22 September.
The municipality of Turnu Magurele participates in this program with the aim of contributing to a change in the lifestyle of the residents of the municipality in the direction of encouraging them to choose responsible green mobility. The theme of this year’s edition is “Better connections” and is held under the slogan “Combine and move!”, inviting the inhabitants of the municipality to use alternatives for ecological travel in the city, in any combination and according to needs.
The 6th EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK is the perfect opportunity to test new forms of mobility, take stock of current urban transport challenges and help progress towards more sustainable mobility for Europe. Since its introduction in 2002, the impact of the “European Mobility Week” has grown steadily, both in Europe and around the world. The capacity of the roads is constantly increasing, which leads to an increase in pollution, noise, a decrease in green areas and, above all, a decrease in the comfort and satisfaction of citizens.
This week, citizens of Turnu Magurele municipality and across the continent are invited to participate in events promoting environmentally friendly modes of transport and raising public awareness of the negative impact that car traffic has on the environment and human health. Regular physical activity is essential for our health. However, inaction is becoming more common in Europe. Car use has increased and deteriorating conditions for physical activity are considered to be the main causes of sedentary lifestyles leading to obesity. This campaign aims to promote responsible behavior towards the environment through specific actions related to public transport, cycling, creation of green spaces, thematic competitions, implementation of informational materials, etc. It is our direct responsibility to defeat air pollution by changing our daily habits and taking small but effective measures to protect the environment. Air pollution is a problem and the goal is to find ways to approve its quality.
